About

Thank you for taking the time to look at my website.

I started my journey into photography in 1991.  After kicking around in my hometown, I had the opportunity to purchase a one hour photo lab.  I had always loved taking pictures and it seemed a great chance to put my business studies together with my love of photography.  I quickly started doing small commercial jobs, weddings, portraits, sporting events for newspapers and the list goes on.  You name, it I shot it.

During this time a local photographer, Terry Wild, showed an interest in my work and suggested I come to work for him.  I made the decision to close the lab after five years and go to work for The Wild Studio.  I was the lab tech and studio assistant, but also was photographing studio work, portraits, weddings and whatever I was needed for.  The eight years I worked for the studio I gained the greatest education in photography I could have ever imagined.  Terry was chosen by Life Magazine as an up and coming photographer in the late 1960’s.  He was a great mentor and taught me to have a passion for all photography.  He  made sure I was a well rounded photographer and I was not allowed to say, “I don’t shoot that”.

Fortunately, the studio was on the leading edge of the digital photography wave.  I learned the importance of color calibration from the start. I started shooting digital with the Nikon D1X and the Phase-One Digital Back. I have experienced the revolutionary upgrades in digital photographic equipment from the time it was accepted in the commercial world.  I still enjoy doing the color corrections and retouching of my own work.  I started with Photoshop on floppy disks way back with the first PC version of PS and have stayed current PS to date and have since abandoned PC's and use only MAC Computers today.

I left the studio in 2004 to become the in house photographer for a national advertising agency, Golden Proportions Marketing.  GPM specializes in cosmetic dental marketing and elective health care.  My job was, and still is, to fly around the USA and Canada to make pictures of people with restored smiles through cosmetic dentistry for marketing and point of purchase displays.  I to this day have a wonderful working relationship with GPM.

In 2006 I left the comforts of GPM to be a freelance photographer doing work for myself and others.  I now live in Calgary and focus most of my work here in Alberta.   I would welcome the opportunity to make images for you, your family or your company.  No matter how large or how small the job, I put in the same effort, because I feel you are only a good as your last job.

Cheers,

Chris Stutz
